two birds
Jenna had this thing about her body. She dressed with care, knowing that her true worth lay not in her appearance but inside, in her character. But still - it would be nice to get a compliment for once. She shook her head at herself in the mirror. ‘Vanity’, she mouthed, and set off for the soup kitchen where she volunteered.
As she approached the shelter, she couldn’t help but notice two young men on the other side of the road. As they crossed towards her, she heard one say to the other, ‘Check her out!’ And she straightened her back and marched straight past but couldn’t resist a little grin and an extra swoosh of her hips; and shot up a little arrow prayer of thanks for an unexpected gift.
The boys, who hadn’t noticed her, squatted down beside the homeless lady, huddled on the footpath, and asked if they could help.
